Granby Composites, an innovative Canadian company, distinguishes itself in the world of composite materials by specializing in the design and manufacturing of fiberglass water tanks and storage systems for the Canadian and U.S. markets. Since its creation in 1996, Granby Composites has come a long way to become a key player in the fiberglass tank and composite equipment industry. Based in Ham-Nord, in the heart of Quebec, the company has earned a solid reputation thanks to its commitment to quality, durability, safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
Tailor-made tanks for various applications
Products manufactured by Granby Composites include a wide range of fiberglass tanks and accessories, custom-designed to meet specific customer needs. Among their flagship products are tanks for fire protection, drinking water, wastewater, grease interceptor, rainwater harvesting.
The advantages of fiberglass tanks
Fiberglass tanks offer a multitude of advantages, explaining their growing popularity in various water storage applications. Here are just a few of these advantages:
- Lightweight: fiberglass tanks are considerably lighter than their steel or concrete counterparts, making them easier to transport, handle and install.

- Watertight: the combination of fiberglass and high-quality resin ensures exceptional watertightness, reducing the risk of leaks and environmental contamination.

- Adaptability: they can be tailor-made to meet specific capacity and size requirements, making them suitable for a variety of applications.

- Durability: fiberglass tanks have a long service life and generally require less maintenance than tanks made of other materials.

- Low maintenance costs: thanks to their strength and durability, fiberglass tanks require less maintenance over time, which translates into substantial savings.
- Easy to repair: in the event of damage, fiberglass tanks are easy to repair, which can extend their service life.

- Regulatory compliance: fiberglass tanks are manufactured to meet local and national standards and regulations, facilitating compliance.
- Underground or above-ground installation: they can be installed underground, making them discreet and saving surface space. What’s more, some installations allow them to be installed under a parking lot, while complying with the strict standards for doing so.
FRP Tanks have many advantages: they are quick and easy to install, 30 times lighter than concrete and 4 times lighter than steel. Above-ground tanks are versatile, and are used for mining camp supply, fire protection, wastewater treatment and drinking water storage, among other applications. Granby Composites provides detailed engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation of all components of your aboveground tank. Our products are ready for use immediately upon delivery.

The manufacturing process
Granby Composites uses a sophisticated manufacturing technique to produce its fiberglass tanks. This method, known as “fiberglass spraying in a rotating mold”, is ideal for the production of large, complex-shaped fiberglass parts.
Here’s how it works
- Mould preparation: a rotary mould is prepared. This mold can be made of metal or other resistant materials and is designed to be divided into two parts to facilitate removal of the molded part.
- Chopped glass fibers: glass fibers are cut into short pieces, called “roving,” and loaded into a spray gun.
- Resin spraying: resin and curing agent are sprayed onto the walls of the rotating mold. The resin acts as a binder for the glass fibers.
- Fiber spraying: chopped glass fibers are sprayed into the rotating mold. The rotating movement of the mold allows the fibers to cling to the mold walls while being evenly distributed.
- Fiber compaction: a rotating roller presses the fibers against the mold walls, ensuring even distribution and good adhesion to the resin.
- Resin curing: once the glass fibers have been properly distributed and pressed against the mold walls, the resin is cured. This can be done using an appropriate chemical hardener, depending on the type of resin used.
- Cooling and removal: once the resin has hardened, the rotary mold is cooled, and the molded part is removed from the mold by separating it into two parts.
This manufacturing method guarantees the production of high-quality fiberglass tanks, with uniform fiber distribution and high mechanical strength. However, it requires specific equipment and expertise to achieve outstanding results.
In conclusion, Granby Composites embodies excellence in the manufacture of fiberglass tanks, with an unwavering commitment to quality, durability, safety, and customer satisfaction. Their expertise in this field makes them a trusted supplier to many sectors, and their state-of-the-art manufacturing methodology guarantees products of the highest quality.
